About

The new experience has two main parts that stay on every page: a sidebar on the left and a top bar across the top. The sidebar takes you to your pages. The top bar holds search, notifications, help and your account menu. This article walks through both, and ends with a map of where familiar pages from earlier versions of ControlMap now live.

This article describes what Super Admins and Compliance Managers see. Other roles see a shorter sidebar with only the pages they need.

Use the sidebar

The sidebar is split into three parts, from top to bottom:

  • Three top items: Dashboard, To do and Monitor.
  • The framework section: a framework switcher, and the pages for the framework you choose.
  • The Manage group: pages that cover your whole company.

The page you are on is highlighted in the sidebar. This includes pages you open from a list: if you open a vendor from the Vendors list, Vendors stays highlighted.

Switch between frameworks

The framework switcher sits below the top items. It shows the name of the framework you are working in. Select it to open the list, which contains:

  • Add framework: the first row of the list.
  • All Frameworks: shows data from every framework you have imported.
  • Each framework you have imported.

Framework pages

Under the switcher, the sidebar lists the pages for the framework you chose. These pages show data for that framework only, or for every framework when All Frameworks is selected:

Manage

The Manage group holds the pages that cover all of your frameworks: Risks, Controls, Assets, People, Vendors and Trust. Choosing a different framework in the switcher does not change them. Dashboard, To do and Monitor also stay the same whichever framework you pick.

The Risks page open from the Manage group, with Risks highlighted in the sidebar

Settings is not in the sidebar. You find it in the account menu (see "Use the account menu" below).

Move around with the sidebar

  1. Pick a framework in the switcher, or pick All Frameworks.
  2. Select a framework page, such as Objectives. The page shows data for that framework.
  3. Select a Manage page, such as Vendors. The page shows data for your whole company.

Collapse the sidebar

You can shrink the sidebar to icons to give the page more room.

  1. Select the Collapse icon at the bottom left of the sidebar. Its label is "Collapse navigation".
  2. To bring the full sidebar back, select the same icon. Its label is now "Expand navigation".

While the sidebar is collapsed, the framework switcher becomes a small button. ControlMap remembers your choice in your browser, so it can differ from one browser to another.

Use the top bar

The top bar is on every page. From left to right, it contains:

  • The account menu: the ControlMap logo and your company name, with an arrow. On the Free and Essentials plans, a "Free" or "Essentials" badge sits beside it.
  • LaunchPad: the search box in the middle of the bar. Select it, or press ⌘K on a Mac or Ctrl K on Windows. Use it to search for controls, evidence, risks, action items, policies and procedures, or to create a risk, action item, evidence item, asset or vendor. Press Esc to close it.
  • The light and dark mode button (Use dark mode or Use light mode). ControlMap saves your choice to your account.
  • Notifications: the bell icon, which opens a "Notifications" panel.
  • Open help: the question mark icon, which opens a panel with a search box ("Search help articles"), "Key Resources" (Help Center and Contact ControlMap Support) and "About" (the ControlMap version).
  • Open Copilot Beta: the sparkle button. It appears only when AI is turned on for you.

Use the account menu

Select the ControlMap logo and company name at the top left to open the account menu. Which sections you see depends on your role:

  • Tenant: a list of your clients. Pick one to reload ControlMap for that client. Only partner users who are Super Admins or Compliance Managers see this section.
  • Account: contains Account Settings. Partner users who are Super Admins or Compliance Managers see it, and so does any Super Admin.
  • Product: contains ControlMap. Its submenu, "Your Products", lists ControlMap and "ScalePad Community", which opens in a new tab.
  • User: your name, then My Profile, Appearance and Sign Out. Partner users also see My Compliance and Connect to JIRA.

To change how ControlMap looks, select Appearance and choose "System default", "Light" or "Dark". A tick shows the current choice.

Where things moved

If you used the legacy experience, these tables show where each page, tab and button went in the new experience.

Inside a framework

In the legacy experience, a framework's pages were grouped into tabs named Overview, Assess, Plan, Implement, Monitor and Audit. The new experience puts them in the sidebar instead:

Plan › Action Items Plan of Action
Implement › Objectives Objectives › By Objectives

Monitor › Systems Monitor (outside the framework section)

Two pages are new and have no match in the legacy experience: To do, and Scope on frameworks with an SPRS score.
