If assessment questions are missing from or unexpectedly appear in your Assessment list, review the scope of the objectives in the affected framework and the answer status of the questions. ControlMap displays questions based on whether they apply to at least one objective that is in scope.

Why assessment questions disappear

ControlMap hides a question from the Assessment tab when both of the following conditions apply:

  • The question is marked Not Applicable.

  • The question is linked only to an objective that is out of scope.

When an objective is out of scope, questions that apply only to that objective are no longer relevant to the framework and are removed from the Assessment list.

If a question maps to multiple objectives, it remains visible when at least one of those objectives is in scope. Marking one mapped objective out of scope does not hide the question if another mapped objective remains in scope.

Why assessment questions appear

Questions can appear in an existing framework when either of the following occurs:

  • An objective associated with the question changes from out of scope to in scope.

  • A question changes from Not Applicable to an applicable answer status, such as Yes, No, or Partially.

Unexpectedly appearing questions do not necessarily mean that someone added a new framework. A change to the scope of an objective in an existing framework can make previously hidden questions appear in the Assessment list.

Restore a missing assessment question

To locate and restore a missing question:

  1. In your ControlMap account, open the Objectives tab within the affected framework.

  2. Locate the objective associated with the missing question.

  3. Review the objective's scope and the question's answer status.

  4. If the objective is relevant to your assessment, return it to in scope. If the question is marked Not Applicable, change its answer status to Yes, No, or Partially, as appropriate.

  5. Return to the Assessment tab and confirm that the question appears.

Review questions that appeared unexpectedly

If questions appear in an existing assessment and you did not expect them:

  1. Open the Objectives tab within the affected framework.

  2. Review the scope of the objectives associated with the new questions.

  3. Check whether an objective recently changed from out of scope to in scope.

  4. For questions linked to multiple objectives, confirm whether at least one of those objectives is in scope.

  5. If no objective-scope or question-status change explains the questions, submit a ticket to our support team with the framework name and question IDs.
