About

The Asana integration pulls the tasks of one Asana project into ControlMap and attaches them as evidence to the controls you choose. This shows an auditor the work that was done for those controls, without you exporting or copying tasks by hand.

You pick one Asana workspace and project, preview the tasks, and link the connection to one or more controls. For each task, the preview lists the task name, type and Asana task ID. After you connect, ControlMap creates one check, Get tasks from Asana.

Before you start

You need:

  • Setting up integrations from the client portal is part of the Pro plan. For details, see the Free, Essentials and Pro plans article.
  • An Asana user who has at least read permissions on the project you want to fetch tasks from.

Connect Asana

  1. Go to Monitor › Integrations and select Add Integration.
  2. Search for Asana and select its card. The card shows the category Email & Collaboration and the description "Fetch tickets and other tasks from Asana".

The Add Integration window with Asana typed in the search box and the Asana card showing

  1. On the Connection page, select Connect to Asana. ControlMap takes you to Asana's own authorization page, then back to ControlMap when you approve. Use an Asana user who can read the project.

Asana has a single-page setup with no steps, so there are no separate Checks, Watchers or Schedule steps. The Connection page opens with a help panel on the right that explains what the connector does.

The Add Asana page on the Connection step with the Connect to Asana button and the help panel on the right

After you connect, the page shows these fields:

  • Integration name: required. Enter a name for this connection.
  • Workspace: choose the Asana workspace.
  • Project: choose the project to fetch tasks from.
  • Linked Controls: choose the controls that the tasks are attached to as evidence.

Then finish like this:

  1. Select Preview tasks to check that you see the tasks you expect. The tasks are listed as links to Asana. If the project has none, the list shows "-- No tasks found --".
  2. Select Save Integration.

What you'll see after connecting

The Asana connection appears as a card on Monitor › Integrations. Select the card to open its page. For the parts of the page that work the same for every tool, see the Connect an integration article.

The tasks from your project are attached as evidence to the controls you linked.

Disconnect or change settings

  • To change the name, workspace, project or linked controls, open the connection's card on Monitor › Integrations, change the setting on the Connection tab and select Update Connection.
  • If the connection to Asana is lost, the page says "Your connection to Asana has expired or revoked. Please reconnect to Asana." Select Reconnect to Asana and approve the connection again.
  • To delete the connection, select the bin icon on its card. This also deletes the assets and their compliance status. The Connect an integration article has the details.
