About
The Google Drive integration collects the files in one Google Drive folder and attaches them to the controls you choose as evidence. This gives an auditor the documents behind those controls without you downloading and uploading each file by hand.
ControlMap lists each file in the folder by file name and link. After you connect, ControlMap creates one check, Google drive files. ControlMap asks Google for read-only access.
Before you start
You need:
- Setting up integrations from the client portal is part of the Pro plan. For details, see the Free, Essentials and Pro plans article.
- A Google user account. This Google account must have at least read and download permissions on the folder you want to connect.
- The folder you want to get files from, shared with that Google account.
Keep in mind:
- The connector only shows files that are direct children of the folder you choose. It does not fetch files from folders inside that folder.
- ControlMap connects with the credentials of the Google user who signs in. If you want to limit what this connection can do, use a shared Google user with limited permissions. Whichever user you use must have signed in to their Google account at least once.
Connect Google Drive
- Go to Monitor › Integrations and select Add Integration.
- Search for Google Drive and select its card. The card shows the category Document Repository and the description "Periodically fetch documents from Google as evidence".
- On the Connection page, select Sign in with Google. ControlMap takes you to Google to approve the connection, then back to ControlMap. Sign in with the Google account that can read the folder.
Google Drive has a single-page setup with no steps, so there are no separate Checks, Watchers or Schedule steps. The Connection page opens with a help panel on the right that explains what the connector does and what you need.
After you sign in, the page shows "Successfully connected to Google" and these fields:
- Integration name: required. Enter a name for this connection.
- Select a folder from google drive: required. Until you pick a folder, the button reads "-- Not Selected --".
- Linked Controls: choose the controls that the files are attached to as evidence.
Then finish like this:
- Select the folder button. The Select a Google Drive folder window opens. Use the same Google account as this integration. If the window asks, select Connect Google account to browse folders.
- Use the Search folders box to find the folder, or select Load more folders to see more. Select the folder whose files should be collected.
- Select Preview folder to check that you see the files you expect.
- Select Save Integration.
What you'll see after connecting
The Google Drive connection appears as a card on Monitor › Integrations. Select the card to open its page. For the parts of the page that work the same for every tool, see the Connect an integration article.
The files in your folder are attached as evidence to the controls you linked.
Disconnect or change settings
- To change the name, folder or linked controls, open the connection's card on Monitor › Integrations, change the setting on the Connection tab and select Update Connection.
- If the connection to Google is lost, the page says "No longer connected to Google". Select Reconnect and approve the connection again.
- To delete the connection, select the bin icon on its card. This also deletes the assets and their compliance status. The Connect an integration article has the details.
